§ 05 · Advanced Labs
Advanced LabsDeep Diagnostic Panel

Your standard labs are telling you part of the story. Here's the rest.

The lipid panel your GP runs every year measures total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides. That's useful information. It's also incomplete in ways that matter. The markers that actually predict cardiovascular events, hormonal dysfunction, metabolic disease, and inflammatory burden require a different conversation and a different panel.

Code 1's Advanced Labs panel goes 60+ markers deep. Not because more numbers are inherently better, but because the right numbers, interpreted by a physician who knows your full picture, produce a plan that actually makes sense for your body.

§ 02 · What's Missing

"Your labs are normal" has ended too many conversations that should have kept going.

A patient with an LDL of 115 looks "fine" on a standard panel. But if their ApoB is elevated, their Lp(a) is high, and their insulin is trending up, the cardiovascular and metabolic risk is real and already building. The standard panel doesn't see any of that.

The markers that predict disease aren't always the ones being measured. ApoB is a better predictor of cardiovascular risk than LDL in most patients. Lp(a) is largely genetically determined and missed entirely on standard panels. Fasting insulin tells you far more about metabolic health than fasting glucose alone. HOMA-IR gives you a picture of insulin resistance years before it shows up as pre-diabetes.

These aren't experimental markers. They're established, evidence-based, and simply not run in a system optimized for speed over depth.

§ 03 · What We Run

The markers we run and why they matter.

Cardiovascular Risk
  • Total Cholesterol — overall cholesterol burden
  • LDL-C — standard measure of "bad" cholesterol
  • HDL — "good" cholesterol that clears excess LDL
  • Triglycerides — whole fats in the blood
  • ApoB — most accurate atherogenic particle count
  • ApoA — body's ability to lower cholesterol
  • Lp(a) — genetic CV risk, invisible on standard panels
  • PLAC (Phospholipase A2) — active plaque formation
  • hsCRP — systemic inflammation
  • Homocysteine — CV and cognitive risk
  • Uric acid — CV risk and metabolic dysfunction
Metabolic Health
  • Fasting insulin
  • HOMA-IR (insulin resistance calculation)
  • HbA1C

§ 04 · How Results Are Used

Data without interpretation is just numbers.

Every Code 1 patient who completes the Advanced Labs panel sits down with Dr. Cashio to go through the results in detail. Not a portal notification or someone you've never met from the practice call saying everything looks fine — a real conversation about what the numbers mean, what they suggest about your risk profile, and how they inform your plan going forward.

This is what it looks like to actually know your baseline.

From here, the plan has something real to work from.

§ 05 · Who It's For

Is this for you?

This is for you if
  • You're a new Code 1 member establishing your baseline
  • You've been told your labs are normal but don't feel normal and want a deeper look
  • You have a family history of cardiovascular disease, metabolic disease, or hormonal issues and want to know where you actually stand
  • You want to understand your real risk profile before problems develop, not after
This is not for you if
  • You're looking for labs without physician interpretation and a plan built around the results
  • You're not a current Code 1 member or willing to become one
§ 06 · The CIMT Connection

For patients who want to go even deeper on cardiovascular risk.

The Advanced Labs panel gives us the blood-based picture of your cardiovascular risk. The CIMT (Carotid Intima-Media Thickness) scan gives us the structural picture, measuring actual arterial plaque and vascular aging in a way that no blood test can.

Together they're the most complete non-invasive cardiovascular risk assessment available outside of a cardiology workup. If your family history or your labs suggest elevated cardiovascular risk, the CIMT is worth adding.

§ · FAQ

Questions worth asking before you start.

Do I have to fast before my labs?

Yes. We suggest at least 8-12 hours before your labs are drawn. Please remember that fasting does not include water-restriction.

How are labs drawn?

Labs are drawn in-clinic at Code 1 by our nursing staff in a clean, comfortable environment. Results are reviewed directly with Dr. Cashio, not sent through a portal without context.

How long do results take?

Please allow 3 business days for the clinic to receive the results, and up to 48 hours after receipt for analysis.

Is the Advanced Labs panel included in my membership?

No. Labs drawn at Code 1 Concierge are priced at a substantially reduced cost versus labs done at outside laboratories. You are welcome to have your labs done at CPL labs using your insurance, if you so choose.

How often should I run this panel?

This completely depends on your individual circumstances, personal and family health history, and health goals.
